Daniel McBrearty is a singer-songwriter, composer, clarinet, saxophonist and music producer who was born in West Wales in 1964, and now lives in Gent, Belgium. Daniel’s music blends elements of jazz, folk, soul and rhythm and blues in a melodic and accessible way.
Music bit him early, after discovering swing jazz records in the family record collection, and trying to copy them on clarinet. The sax soon followed, then guitar, and a fascination with song writing. Leaving home at 17 to pursue a career in electronics (after brief military service) he learned his music playing in bands from punk to reggae to soul in and around London. His success in the pro-audio world (he spent several years designing equipment for Royal Opera House in Covent Garden which is still in daily use) led naturally to home recording, and a debut CD in 1996. A trip to New Orleans in 2010 led to renewed interest in jazz clarinet and saxophone and solid gigging experience in clubs and festivals in and around Belgium, where he has lived since 2001, and a second CD, “Clarinet Swing” in 2010.
Finding confidence as a vocalist took longer, but he is now dedicated to recording and releasing a catalogue of vocal and instrumental music, as well as composing new material. He is also active with promoting his work on social media to a small but growing base of loyal fans.
Daniel has both British and Belgian nationality. He is a registered writer with PRS for Music, has a Diploma in Arranging from Berklee College of Music, and more than twenty years experience as a professional electronics and software engineer.
