The Moochers

The Moochers are a group of musicians  who, under the leadership of Daniel McBrearty, combine the highest musical values with great entertainment. Although each member of The Moochers is capable of flights of virtuosity, the band's strength lies as much in the spontaneous musical conversations that they create, as in individual solo performances.

The mission of The Moochers is to perform melodic, swinging jazz in a manner that every person of good musical taste will enjoy. They represent a return to the days when musicians entertained their public - rather than the other way around.

"I organised a formal conference dinner at Le Plaza Theatre ... there was an empty stage begging for entertainment. A perfect evening was created because of their amazing sound and I would use them again - any time!" (Emma Bestley, Clear Channel International)

The Moochers are all about the melody. And, if you appreciate the lyricism and richness of "The Great American Songbook" - you should expect no less.

If you are an aficionado of the great years of jazz, you will hear a few well-loved tunes at a Moochers concert. But, also, a few impeccably-crafted original compositions or lesser performed numbers might come your way. Expect not only the familiar, but also, some delightful surprises.

“For the 60th anniversary party of our company, we booked the Moochers. The celebration was a success thanks to them - they really added a festive tone.” (Karen Gerbens, Eli Lilly Benelux SA)

Seppe van Tillborg began his career on guitar playing in the style of the great gypsy Django Rheinhardt, and studied with Fapy Lafertin, one of the acknowledged masters of the style. However, his influences also include Charlie Christian and Grant Green. His musical rapport with Daniel forms a integral part of The Moochers' sound whenever they play together.

The bass is the rock and the foundation of a jazz band, and Piet Verbist is widely respected as one of the most solid players on the Belgian scene. He is active with several of his own groups and in demand as a sideman for many others, including Jazz Station Big Band, Jef Neve, Score-Man and numerous others. He is also very active as a teacher.

It is often said that the drummer has the most effect on the dynamics of a band, and if so, that makes Tom Lambrecht's impeccable taste and control, combined with his infectiously positive energy, a key part of The Moochers' sound. His reputation as a man who truly understands the spirit of the music is making him a player who is always in demand.

Jef Manderveld

Jef began playing bass guitar at the age of 13, but switched to contrabass at the 15. A protegé of Piet, he has also studied with Janos Bruneel and is currently at the Conservatory of Antwerp. Jef also plays with his own piano trio, and is one of the fast rising young stars on the Belgian music scene.

“We invited The Moochers to CopaCobana Festival, Gent. There was a big crowd of dancers and listeners, who really appreciated their music. The Moochers are 100% professional to work with and gave us a great show” (Sep Vermeersch, Lindy Hop performer and teacher)

The Moochers are available as a trio (without drums, for smaller venues or events) or a quartet.
