“The Blackbird” (recorded under a bridge in Toulouse, 1996)

Back in 1996, I spent a summer in and around Toulouse, hanging out and playing with a great guitar player called Kwei-Mein Chen. I had with me a Sony Pro Walkman which we used to record some of the music we played, under a canal bridge next to the River Garonne. It had a great acoustic, we nicknamed it “Alesis Bridge”. Recetly I am super happy to say I am back in contact with my great friend Kwei.

One of the tunes we recorded is this great traditional Irish tune called “The Blackbird”. I love this tune, and Kwei absolutely nailed the guitar accompaniment. He has a great acoustic style, mixing chords and percussion in a really special way.

I decided to make a video – I used some old clips from family holidays – featuring my daughter Anna running in the sea in Pembrokeshire (we had just driven the whole night to get there), and lots of other pics of special places.

I hope you enjoy “The Blackbird”.
